'The Lorax' follows mishmash of Seuss movie concoctions Naples Daily News
There's one way in which theodor geisel was kind of like the reclusive onceler in"The lorax":When people came knocking to adapt his books into movies, he didn't want to be bothered.
Throughout his life, dr.Seuss shunned the efforts of hollywood studios to put his fantastical creatures on the big screen. Two decades after his death and on what
Pandora Charms UK would be his 108th birthday on friday hollywood is about to go where the gricklegrass grows for the fourth movie,"The lorax,"One of his most colorful and most topical entries.
So far, hollywood is batting 1for3 on Dr.Seuss, having struck out critically with the first two"How the grinch stole christmas"And"Dr.Seuss' the cat in the hat"But getting back in good graces with the animated"Horton hears a who! "
While he dismissed the idea of actors portraying his characters, dr.Seuss indeed was a fan of animation, and, in 1942, he agreed to a 10minute short of"Horton hatches the egg"As part of the looney tunes series.
Then, in 1966, he coproduced"How the grinch stole christmas,"A 26minute adaptation of his 1957 book for cbs that was directed by chuck jones, of bugs bunny and daffy duck fame, and narrated by horror legend boris karloff, in one of his last projects. It's gone on to be a television classic, ranked by tv guide to be the no.1 Holiday Family Special.
He collaborated with jones on two more specials, doing"Horton hears a who! " (1970)And"The cat in the hat" (1971), which is now a PBS series. There were a number of other animations in the '70sAnd'80s, including one of "The lorax"In 1972.
It wasn't until he died in 1991, at age 87, that hollywood got its paws on the seuss canon, thanks to his widow, audrey geisel, who approved a liveaction film version of"How the grinch stole christmas. "And that's where the story begins:
"HowTheGrinch stole christmas" (2000):Despite being inThecapable hands of ron howard, who had directed such hits as"Splash," "Parenthood"And"Apollo 13,"The"Grinch"Movie managed to validate geisel's concerns.Theidea of a Grinch hating ChristmasAndstealing presents from kids is a rather frightening concept that wasn't too scary when he was a bright green cartoon character.
Jim carrey's grinch crossed the line into tim burton territory.Roger ebert wrote that"His grinch, with his pigsnout nose and mr.Hyde hairdo, looks more like a perverse wolfman than the hero of a comedy. "
The folks down in whoville, with their upturned noses, were only slightly less creepy.Seuss' the cat in the hat" (2003):Dr.Seuss' signature character was entrusted to firsttime director bo welch and mike meyers, coming off the success of two"Austin powers"Movies, and what we got was the cat in the hat getting hit in the crotch with a baseball bat. That went along with the hyperactive pacing, slapstick violence and slyDrug and sexual references.
The director, acclaimed for his production design on such movies as"Edward scissorhands"And"Beetlejuice,"Did earn points for the flashy visuals. But it ended there. The new york times called it"A vulgar, uninspired lump of poisoned eye candy. "
It was scored a very rotten 11 percent on rotten tomatoes and grossed $100.4 million, failing to meet its $109 million budget until the video release.
Not only was"The cat in the hat"Not coming back for a sequel, audrey geisel disliked the film so intensely, she declared it would be the final liveaction attempt at one of her husband's movies.
"Horton hears a who! " (2008):Jim carrey would get a second shot at seuss, but this time in the form of an elephant who clings to a tiny dust speck that contains the entire town of whoville.
Blue sky studio("Ice age"Movies)And former"Toy story"Animator jimmy hayward provided eyepopping and childlike animation and a moral of loyalty and responsibility. "Horton,"Which also starred steve carell and carol burnett, was the first critical success of the three, rating a 79 on rotten tomatoes. It was considered the first to really capture the"Warmhearted"Spirit of his books.
Audiences responded positively as well.It was made for an estimated $85 million and grossed $154.5 million, before going to DVD.
The first full cgi production of his films, it created a template for seuss in hollywood that's been used for"The lorax"And is sure to be followed in years to come.
how do I SUM column values if the name of the column contains a word
The maximum number of columns in a table is 1024 so you can't keep adding columns for every brand/item permutation that ever occurs.
If a brand makes bags and shoes you will be repeating the information about the brand multiple times.Any time such information is repeated there is a possibility that slight differences and anomalies creep in.Additionally if a brand changes their name you need to update the column and all code you have that references it.
You can't do simple calculations such as summing all bags without hardcoding all the permutations and remembering to update that code when you add a new brand.
You can't do some queries at all(Or at least not without great difficulty)Such as bring back the
Ralph Lauren Outlet name of all brands that supply shoes.
Well, i wanted to try to solve this as asked as an exercise for myself because i'm learning sql in more depth.I think the problems with the given schema are wellenough documented for me to not say anything else about that.
